Young Canadians in Finance Montreal is pleased to cordially invite you to a breakfast event with representatives from la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec.

The Caisse’s investment strategy is based on the fundamental value of assets. The organization adopted a business owner approach, rather than one guided by the volatility of short-term markets. Helen Beck and Maxime Aucoin will be pleased to present this approach to the participants and to explain how it is being implemented into the investment activities on a daily basis. Christian Dubé will deliver the opening remarks. A period of questions and answers with the group will conclude the event.

Christian Dubé - Executive Vice-President, Québec

Profile
Christian Dubé was appointed Executive Vice-President, Québec, on August 15, 2014. As such, he is in charge of implementing la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec’s investment strategy, which aims to boost the Québec economy by fostering the growth of businesses in the province and generating returns in line with clients’ expectations. Overseeing the private equity portfolio in Québec, he also advises all of the investment teams to help identify the best investment opportunities across the province. More generally, he plays a leadership role to coordinate and plan, using an integrated approach, all of CDPQ’s business activities in Québec. Mr. Dubé sits on CDPQ’s Executive Committee and Investment-Risk Committee.

Background
Mr. Dubé represented the riding of Lévis in the Québec National Assembly from 2012 to 2014. He was notably Vice-Chair of the Commission des finances publiques. Prior to entering politics, he led a distinguished career in the private sector. A chartered accountant by training, he worked at Price Waterhouse before co-founding Biron Lapierre Dubé & associés in 1986 and going on in 1992 to become Head of Finance at Coopers & Lybrand. From 1996 to 2004, he held executive positions at Domtar, including that of Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer and Vice-President, Strategy, responsible for mergers and acquisitions. Between 2004 and 2008, he was Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer at Cascades, and from 2009 to 2012, he managed its European branch. During this period, as Vice-President, he was also involved in business strategy development, various mergers and acquisitions, and oversight of the company’s information technologies.

Mr. Dubé holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Université Laval and is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Connections
Christian Dubé has sat on several boards of directors, including those of Norampac, National Bank Financial, Héroux-Devtek and Fido, and has chaired the Board of Reno De Medici in Europe. He was also a member of the Investment Committee of Cycle Capital Management and a member of the Financing Committee of Tel-jeunes. In 2010, Mr. Dubé was awarded the Prix Hermès by the Faculty of Administration of Université Laval in recognition of his career and his many achievements internationally.

Maxime Aucoin - Senior Vice-President, Total Portfolio

Maxime Aucoin is Senior Vice-President, Total Portfolio, at Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ). Maxime and his team manage the asset allocation within the strategic parameters of our depositors and lead the overall portfolio construction efforts that guide the investment strategy review process. Maxime is a member of the Investment-Risk Committee and president of the interdisciplinary research committee of CDPQ.

He joined CDPQ in 2012 as Vice-President, Strategy, advising the executive team on the design and execution of CDPQ’s corporate strategy and major strategic initiatives. Previously, he worked for management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, advising multinationals in the financial and manufacturing sectors. Maxime started his career at Cirque du Soleil in strategy.

Maxime holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, a bachelor’s degree in Finance from HEC Montreal and was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Helen Beck Senior Vice-President, Canadian Equities and Indexed Management, Equity Markets

Profile
Helen Beck has over 20 years of experience as an analyst and portfolio manager in the Canadian stock market.  Helen began her career at the Montreal Exchange and spent 15 years with CN Investment Division where she managed a Canadian equity portfolio as well as a North-American portfolio and was a member of the Division’s executive committee.

Background
Prior to joining la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) in April 2014, Helen was Head of Canadian Equities and a Partner at Jarislowsky Fraser, where she served on their Investment Strategy Committee. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Finance from Concordia University and is a CFA charterholder.
