Young Canadians in Finance (Toronto) is pleased to cordially invite you to an evening with Mr. Ian Friedman, Co-Head at Goldman Sachs Investment Partners (venture capital and growth equity arm of Goldman Sachs). This is the second edition of our Adventure Capital series where we invite some of the seasoned professionals from the venture capital industry to share their journey.

Ian Friedman is Co-Head of Goldman Sachs Investment Partners (GSIP). Some of his top investments include Uber, Pinterest, Spotify, Foodpanda, CompareAsiaGroup, Shift Technologies, thredUP, GoEuro, Cadre, ResearchGate, SMS Assist, Plaid, Hubba, Ring and Outcome Health. In addition to that, Ian sits on the Board of Directors of Foodpanda, Shift Technologies and thredUP.

Previously, Ian worked within GSIP's Public Investment Fund, leading his team’s Public investments in the Technology sector. Prior to joining GSIP, he held positions at Bain Capital and The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Ian holds an Honors in Business Administration (HBA) degree from The Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

As a venture capitalist, Mr. Friedman has worked on some of the best deals that have a profound impact on our lives today. In this interview he will walk us through few of his best investments and his professional journey that brought him to GSIP. During the session, we will wear an ‘investor’s hat’ and learn how top investors evaluate growth, teams and market opportunities. He will also talk about the current venture capital ecosystem in North America specifically Canada and share his insight on the future outlook of the industry.

After his talk, we will open the floor to questions from the audience. The diversity of the audience will lead to a fun discussion. To end the event, we will then break into a networking session where refreshments and drinks will be provided.
